We have a real passion for enabling people to use their gardens. Many gardens are hardly used, even when the weather is good, where there is potential for creating outside space which can be utilised as another room. With the right application in a high quality build, gardens can be transformed from a space that you don’t want to look at to one you want to use and enjoy as much as possible.
It’s the little details that maximise the use and enjoyment you can get from your garden: retaining walls built in the right place and at the right height so they double as seating for your garden party guests; trees and structures placed just so, to ensure privacy yet exploit any sunshine to the full; the choice of plants to give the backdrop you want – colour and year round coverage, but still minimising any maintenance problems.
We pride ourselves on providing our customers excellent service to give you the garden that works for both you and your family.
Steve Johnson Garden Maintenance, Landscaping & Fencing can provide a wide range of fencing and gates to match all tastes and budgets. The fencing and gates comes pressure treated to withstand natural weather conditions but will require retreatment in time to maximise their lifespan.

We Are Concrete Post Specialists
Close-board fencing, one of the names given to any kind of solid board fencing, is one of the most favoured types of fence for domestic use. It is usually constructed with featheredge boards and is erected using a rail framework, these are usually triangular arras rails, although the basic square rails can also be used. Close-board is very flexible in its style, its appearance can be changed to best suit the situation, the height and length can be adjusted to the surroundings.
Palisade fences, also known as Picket fences, are used when an unobtrusive fencing solution is required. The standard height of Palisade fences are 900mm, 1050mm and 1200mm, although up to 1500mm is available. There are 3 types of palisade tops available; pointed top (often called 2-way top), round top and square top. Palisade fencing, once erected, can be painted or stained any colour to suit; a common applied finish is the white painted palisade fence.
Lap panels are made to suit different budgets, this means that they also come with different attributes. The most common is the medium weight panel, usually labelled "fully framed", meaning they have timber batten around the outside edge. Some lighter weight panels do not have a batten covering the bottom (if using concrete posts you will need "fully framed" panels). Panels are available in a number of common heights; 3ft (915mm), 4ft (1220mm), 5ft (1525mm) and 6ft (1830mm).
Although more commonly seen in the agricultural sector, Post and Rail is becoming increasingly popular within the domestic area. This type of fence is best suited for more rural locations and field boundaries. Post and rail can be erected on level or sloping ground. Post and rail is a generic term used to describe any fencing system comprising of solid timber rails. There are a number of common variants such as; sawn, cleft and half-round.
Our wide range of Trellis Panels are a versatile and attractive method of defining and adding a new dimension to garden spaces. Trellis has been used in gardens for centuries to provide many different functions, for example increasing privacy, screening unsightly areas or simply providing additional interest.
Timber driveway gates can make any entrance way look appealing, at an affordable price. There are many different styles of timber driveway gates, standard 'stock' design and bespoke, available in both hardwood and softwood. We can make the bespoke gates to fit any height and width.
As the name suggests, Field Gates are almost exclusively used as entrance gates to fields and farms. Field gates can be made in a variety of widths and heights to suit your requirements.
Side entrance gates constructed from timber can be an attractive addition to any property. Width and height can vary, from small 900mm gates up to 1800mm high gates. The gates can be of close-board, panel, tongue & grooved or palisade style and can be made to order.
Steve Johnson Garden Maintenance, Landscaping & Fencing can provide a wide range of paving, patios and driveways to match all tastes and budgets.

Brickweave block paving looks great and can provide many years of hard-wearing service for paths, patios and driveways.
The moulded concrete blocks used in block paving are laid on either a sand bed and the joints filled with a fine silica sand ('flexible paving') or on a concrete or mortar bed with mortar joints (‘rigid paving’). The enormous variety of block shape, size, colour and texture used in block paving opens up a myriad of design possibilities. Basically, if you can think of it then it most likely can be constructed from block paving. In addition, you can enhance your block paving further using a variety of practical and decorative edging stones to finish the design off.
Should the block paving become damaged or stained, or if any underground maintenance needs to be carried out, it is a simple process to take up the block paving and relay it.
Although simple shingle seems an easy cheap answer to your drive/pathway problems if it isn't laid correctly the shingle will move and you may end up with an uneven surface. We have been using shingle successfully on drives for years and this experience means we can give you great advice in the type of shingle to be used and if shingle is the correct choice for you. Ideal for transforming driveways, paths, patios and car parks, the result is a beautiful stone surface, which will completely transform the aesthetics of the treated hard standing and provide many features and benefits to the homeowner; including increased property valuations and envious neighbours.
Your patio can be a variety of different paving combinations, so it does not have to be a boring area of square slabs. There are so many combinations to choose from such as "Antique" blocks with random sized Indian stone paving slabs; or perhaps textured paving and decorative stone. You can have curves, colour and creativity. The permutations are endless and you will have great pleasure in choosing the style that suits and is unique to you.
Your patio area is your outdoor living space, for the family and friends to relax and enjoy. Professionally laid patios and paths are an extension to your home that provide a place to display plants, dine and relax with family and friends.
Patios have become an established part of most people’s home, and a way to add style and functionality to any back garden. There are a large variety of patios to choose from – rustic patios made from brick and modern patios made from tiles, for example. Ideally, the patio should look like a natural extension of the house, made with materials that complement those used in the property itself. Depending on the specific priorities of your patio and the style of your home, we can create traditional and innovative patios to suit your requirements and budget.
Ranging from traditional to modern decorative effects, concrete driveways combine durability with style to provide a hard-wearing and attractive approach to any home.
Concrete is a mixture of portland cement, aggregates (crushed stone, sand, shale, etc.) and water. When mixed to the right strength and laid on a suitable base this long-established technique will create heavy-duty, weed-free, maintenance-free concrete driveways that will last and last.
Not surprisingly, because of their appearance, durability and ease of care, concrete driveways are the first choice of driveway for many people. Although plain grey concrete is still the most common choice, more people are discovering the wide-ranging possibilities of decorative concrete driveways, and they have become a key design feature for properties of all styles and sizes.
We are able to offer our customers a complete garden maintenance service on top of landscaping, paving or fencing. Whether you require regular attention to your outside space, or one of those one off jobs that are best left to the professional, give us a call and we will be happy to help.
We can prune that unsightly tree, reduce or remove your overgrown hedge, or carry out a full garden clearance to take you back to a blank canvass upon which to create your dream garden.
With our mini digger we can level your ground to make it a more manageable and practical space, or terrace a slope to form useful flat areas. Digging ponds or footings for foundations are also no problem.
Is your lawn looking tired? Has it seen better days? We can supply and lay quality turf to restore it back to full health and give you a lawn to be proud of.
With our industrial log splitter we can transform a pile of tree trunks into a source of logs for a wood-burner to help keep the chill away this winter.
